MOD in Licensing MagazineAdvanced Licensing Strategies Licensing International Expo 2008 offered a wide selection of edcuational seminars and expert panels to share timely trends, professional experience and insights with attendees about the business of licensing. Kicking off the opening day schedule was Advanced Licensing Strategies, which surveyed the current state of the industry. Moderator Stu Seltzer, partner, Marketing on Demand, a specialist in licensing, was joined by panelists Steven Cohen, vice president of licensing at CSS Industries; Gary Hymowitz, vice president of consumer products at Scholastic; and Pamel Fields, chief executive officer at Stetson. Seltzer provided a list of the top 10 licensors - including Disney, Phillips Van Heusen, Warner Bros. Consumer Products, Iconix, Marvel, Nickelodeon, Marjor League Baseball, Sanrio, Cherokee and the National Football League - and noted the current level of sophistication that the liicensing has attained. Seltzer said the challenges in the market today include retail consolidation, direct-to-retail licensing and economic factors.
